Rus Rus
Hospital

Honduras, Central America

Origin Story & Hospital Summary:

Rus Rus Hospital, located in the remote region of Gracias A Dios, Honduras, near the Nicaraguan border, was originally established to serve refugees from the Contra war in Nicaragua during the 1980s. The hospital closed in the early 1990s due to a lack of funding but was reopened in 2010 by the Missionary Air Group (MAG). MAG is a Christian organization that uses aircraft to deliver medical care, support humanitarian relief, and assist ministry operations in remote areas. The hospital now serves approximately 25,000 indigenous Miskito Hondurans and Nicaraguans living in the Coco River corridor, Today, Rus Rus Hospital provides essential healthcare services in one of the most underserved regions of Central America. The facility currently has two Honduran nurses but lacks inpatient services. It does, however, have an operating room. With additional support and resources, the hospital has the potential to expand its services and capacity. The hospital aims to provide comprehensive care, including family practice, pediatrics, and emergency medical services.

Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to the rough, the savage lost of the wilderness; send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in your service, and to promote your kingdom”
