Dr. Osterholm treated approximately 125,000 patients annually, translated the Book of Acts into Kihungana, and trained local nurses. During the civil wars post-independence, the hospital was maintained by Mr. Musiti, a local trained by Dr. Osterholm, who continued operations despite significant challenges., Today, Vanga Evangelical Hospital serves a population of 350,000 annually, receiving patients from 50 health centers in the Bandundu region. The hospital has a capacity of 150 beds and includes surgical (40 beds), medical (30 beds), pediatric (50 beds), and maternity (30 beds) services, as well as a 13-bed intensive care unit and an operating/endoscopy suite. The outpatient department sees an average of 50-60 patients each day. The hospital is renowned for its commitment to training the next generation of indigenous healthcare workers, including over 50 final-year medical students and 300 nursing students.
