Maua Methodist Hospital (MMH), located in the Nyambene Hills of Meru County, Kenya, was established in 1928 by British Methodist missionaries. The hospital was initially built as a 50-bed facility in response to the community's healthcare needs, as observed by the General Superintendent of the East Africa District of the Methodist Church in 1918. The hospital was named Berresford Memorial Hospital in memory of Thomas Berresford, a young man who aspired to become a doctor but passed away at the age of 22. His family donated his university fees to fund the construction of the hospital. Over the years, MMH has grown into a regional referral hospital and a hub for community health and development services., Today, MMH is a 200-bed facility offering a wide range of medical services, including general surgery, pediatrics, maternity care, internal medicine, and emergency services. The hospital also provides specialized services such as orthopedic surgery, palliative care, and physical therapy. It operates a busy mother and child clinic, a dental clinic, and an outreach department that includes satellite palliative clinics and a housing program for AIDS orphans. The hospital employs approximately 350 staff members, including six medical officers and specialists in various fields.

MMH is equipped with modern medical technology, including X-ray machines with a C-arm in the surgical theater, ultrasound, and a fully equipped laboratory. Volunteers can choose to prepare their own meals or pay the additional amount for meal preparation services.

Visitors typically fly into Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and then travel by ground transportation to Maua, approximately a 5.5-hour drive from Nairobi. The hospital assists with travel arrangements to ensure a smooth journey.
