Banso Baptist Hospital (BBH) is the oldest and second-largest hospital of the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS). It is located in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, in the town of Kumbo. Established over 60 years ago, the hospital has grown to become a key provider of high-quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare services. CBCHS operates seven hospitals, 30 integrated health centers, and 54 rural primary healthcare posts, delivering holistic healthcare integrating physical and spiritual care, Today, BBH is a 315-bed hospital offering comprehensive medical, surgical, obstetric, and pediatric care. The hospital staff includes a mix of American and Cameroonian medical professionals, including internists, surgeons, ophthalmologists, and dentists. BBH serves over 94,000 outpatients and 8,000 inpatients annually. The hospital is renowned for its special services and programs, including HIV/AIDS care and prevention, maternal-child health, technical services, and residency programs in surgery and internal medicine.
Technology & Capacity:
BBH supports a range of medical technologies, including nine operating tables in six rooms, endoscopy, and a laparoscopic machine. The hospital performs over 2,300 major and 5,800 minor surgeries each year. Anesthesia is administered using draw-over equipment, which does not require pressurized oxygen. The hospital's ophthalmology suite is well-equipped for eye surgeries, and the laboratory offers a comprehensive range of tests, serving 58,610 patients annually.

Volunteers are accommodated in hospital housing, including dormitories and guest houses. Meals are provided cooperatively in the hospital dining room from Monday through Friday. Visitors typically fly into Douala and then travel by road to Kumbo, an 8.5-hour drive. The hospital logistics coordinator assists with travel arrangements and provides a briefing upon arrival. The journey includes a mix of paved and unpaved roads.
